DISTRIBUTION OF HOLY COMMUNION OUTSIDE MASS BY AN EXTRAORDINARY MINISTER OF COMMUNION

PREPARATION BEFORE HAND:

Lay up altar with Corporal and Missal, (left hand side) open at page 508

'The Lord's Prayer'

Open small missal at opening prayer for the day.

Consult Diocesan Directory, it may inform you to say the Gloria, (This is optional for a minister)

Place Tabernacle key by the Tabernacle.

Light Candles

SERVICE

Minister approaches altar, genuflects to the Blessed Sacrament and goes to the Chair.

Make the sign of the cross and say: 'My brothers and sisters to prepare' ourselves for this celebration let us call to mind our sins'.

Pause..........

Then say .............. ' I confess to Almighty God, and to you brothers and sisters that I have sinned through my own fault (strike breast). In my thoughts and in my words, in what I have done and what I have failed to do; and I ask blessed Mary ever Virgin, all the Angels and Saints, and you my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God'.

Conclude with the words:

'May Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us our sins, and bring us to everlasting life.

Amen'

Note: You may say the Gloria if stated in the Diocesan Directory for the day. Introduce with the words: 'Glory to God in the highest'

On completion read the Opening prayer which may be read from the small Missal opened at the page for the day on the table alongside the chair.

Sit down and listen to the Readings, Psalms and Gospel Acclamation.

After the Gospel Acclamation.

Read the Gospel.

Afte the Gospel, you may read some bidding prayers yourself or the Reader. On completion go to the Tabernacle and move the Blessed Sacrament to the Corporal on the Altar.

Read the introduction and the Lord's prayer from the Missal already open at page 508, say Lords prayer and follow on to the sign of peace.

After the sign of peace turn the page of the Missal page 510 andsay the words 'Lamb of God .......

Afterthis remove the top of the ciborium, obtain a host and show it to the people with the words: 'This is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. Happy are those who are called to his supper' (see words shown in missal page 510).

Then we all say, 'Lord I am not worthy to receive you, only say the word and I shall be healed'.

Consume the host then distribute to the people with the words: 'This is the body of Christ'

On completion return to the Altar, place the ciborium on it, replace the lid and cover, genuflect and return it to the Tabernacle.

Sit and pause for a while. Time enough now to pick up the small misssal from the table alongside you and select the closing prayer (Prayer after Communion) for the day. (You should still have it open at the right place)

Say 'Let us pray then read the prayer.

Then dismiss the people with the words: 'May Almighty God bless us. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit'.

The people answer 'Amen'

Then say, 'Go in the peace of Christ'

The people respond with the words 'Thanks be to God'

Leave the Santuary and genuflect to the Blessed Sacrament on the way out.
